From Freeway Ramp to Design District: The Hayes Valley Story

Hayes Valley has transformed more visibly than almost any other neighborhood in San Francisco over the past two decades. What was once defined by an elevated freeway ramp, torn down after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, is now one of the city's most walkable, design-forward shopping and dining districts, anchored by Patricia's Green, a small park that hosts rotating public art and a steady stream of neighbors on lunch breaks and weekend mornings.

Hayes Street itself is the draw for many buyers: independent boutiques, design showrooms, wine bars, and some of the city's most talked-about restaurants line several blocks, all within a five-minute walk of the Civic Center, Symphony, Opera House, and Ballet — making this a natural fit for buyers who want culture and walkability above almost everything else.
